Ever had your weekend hijacked by unexpected plans, but in a good way? Well, that’s kind of what happened this weekend. My kindergartener was the star of the week in his class. Along with getting a certificate, he was also sent home with a stuffed animal named Stary, and a special journal that’s shared with the class that tracks the adventures of Stary. At first, we thought it would be easy to find something fun to do, after all, we already had weekend plans.
We were going to my son’s t-ball game, we figured we would snap some pictures with Stary and let him write all about it in the journal. But then the rain hit and his coach sent me a text saying the game was cancelled. There we were, stuck with no plans for my son and his stuffy. It poured the whole morning, leaving us searching for a rainy day activity. He was a little disappointed, but not for long. After breakfast, we decided to turn this rainy day into an indoor adventure with our neighbor and her kids.
We headed to Hop’s Bounce House in Atascadero, a place full of energy and excitement. When we arrived, there was a big birthday party happening, and the place was packed with kids running around in their socks. Our kiddos, and Stary, couldn’t wait to join in. Hop’s Bounce House was just what the doctor ordered. Blow-up slides, bounce castles, ball pits, and all sorts of games. It was a perfect rainy day paradise for the kiddos, and the adults were happy to sit on the couches and watch the fun unfold.
Of course, with so many kids around, there were a few bumps and bruises, both literally and figuratively. One kid threw up in a bounce house, but the staff was quick to clean it up. There were also a few tears when kids bumped heads while bouncing around. But overall, it was a positive experience for everyone. While they played, my wife and I enjoyed some coffee from Bru Coffeehouse nearby, grateful that the kids were entertained for a couple of hours.
As the day went on, the rain started to slow down just in time to head home for lunch. Before leaving, we took some pictures with my son holding Stary at Hop’s Bounce House, making sure to capture some memorable moments for his journal. Despite the rainy start, it all worked out, and he had plenty of stories to share with his class.
