We’ve already spent 10 days in Tamarindo and 19 days in Costa Rica, yet our adventure has only just begun. With 70 days left in this remarkable country and 158 days remaining on our trip, our emotions ebb and flow. While Fletcher and Kylan miss their friends back home, they also revel in the joy of forming new friendships. Alli and I oscillate between questioning our sanity and realizing that we are truly embarking on the trip of a lifetime. Our days unfold at a leisurely pace, and our nights are wonderfully unhurried. We appreciate the downtime, while also recognizing the value of a little structure in our lives.
Tamarindo Beach, just a short walk from our Airbnb, has cast a mesmerizing spell on us. With every step onto its sandy shores, the crashing waves and inviting sand beckon us like a magnet. During low tide, we eagerly explore the tide pools with the boys, while high tide brings waves that beg to be ridden. Surfing in the warm water, with the anticipation of a cold coconut awaiting us on the beach, has become an irresistible daily ritual. The locals graciously share the waves, and we happily ride alongside them.
Surprisingly, the swimming pool has become more than just a place for our boys to learn how to swim. It has transformed into a vibrant meeting spot for fellow nomads on their own extraordinary journeys. We’ve encountered fascinating individuals from Oklahoma, Salt Lake City, Fountain Valley, France, The Netherlands, and of course, Costa Ricans themselves. All of us share a passion for travel and an unwavering determination to discover new horizons. Some are passing through, while others have made Tamarindo their temporary home. Yet, in this diverse mix, we’ve found kindred spirits who inspire us with their stories and deepen our sense of connection.
Generosity has become a prevailing theme throughout our time here. While we embarked on this trip without seeking handouts, we’ve been touched by the incredible kindness of those we’ve encountered. From unexpected groceries and homemade treats to toys for our children and invaluable advice on local excursions, people have extended their generosity in countless ways. We’ve been offered the use of cars, had cocktails purchased for us, and were even gifted VIP tickets to a major soccer game. The sense of community that surrounds us has made our prolonged time away from home a little more comforting. Although our journey in Tamarindo will continue for another 21 days, we’re certain that the friendships we’ve cultivated here will endure far beyond our time spent together.
As we venture deeper into the heart of Tamarindo, we embrace the anticipation of the days that lie ahead. The beach, the pool, and the remarkable connections we’ve made will continue to enrich our experience in this captivating corner of Costa Rica. We’re grateful for the memories we’ve already created and look forward to the chapters yet to be written. Each passing day brings new adventures, lessons, and the possibility of forging even deeper bonds. Tamarindo has become more than a destination; it has become a part of our journey, and we’re excited to continue our exploration in this enchanting place.
